Introduction : FTM, MTF and non-binary

FTM and MTF

“FTM” stands for “Female to Male” and “MTF” stands for “Male to Female”. These terms refer to individuals who were assigned a certain gender at birth based on the appearance of the external genitals but are unable to identify themselves with this gender. Masculinization or feminization of the breast, genitals and face are frequently performed.

NON-BINARY: FTN AND MTN

“FTN” stands for “ Female to Nonbinary or Gender Neutral” and “MTN” stands for “Male to Nonbinary or Gender Neutral” . These terms refer to individuals who were assigned a certain gender at birth based on the appearance of the external genitals but are unable to identify themselves with this gender. Non-binary or gender neutral refers to individuals who cannot fit into the binary gender spectrum “male-female” and identify themselves as neither male nor female. Some non-binary individuals consider surgical corrections to better match their body characteristics with their gender identities.

TRANSGENDER CHEST CORRECTIONS: TOP SURGERY

In transgender people, breast correction is often considered, and often as a first step. In English it is called "top surgery". FTM persons experience the presence of breasts as disturbing because they are perceived by the outside world as women, while they do not feel feminine at all. The treatment performed here is a transgender mastectomy. A transgender mastectomy can also be considered with FTN , but there are a number of specific considerations to be made. MTF patients experience the absence of breasts as disturbing because they are perceived by the outside world as men, while they do not feel masculine at all.
