Chin correction

An underprojecting chin results in an unbalanced facial profile. It seems as if the nose is too big and overprojecting, or in an insufficient neck line definition. This unbalanced profile can be corrected with a chin correction. For this reason, a chin correction is frequently combined with a rhinoplasty or neck lift.

Chin correction with an implant

By far the best method to improve chin correction, is the insertion of a chin implant. The implant is made of silicone and comes in different shapes and sizes. During the first consultation the surgeon determines what implant suits you best. The surgery itself can be considered as minor. The implant is inserted through a small incision in the chin fold. The resulting scar is perfectly camouflaged in this fold and virtually invisible.

Chin correction with fillers

Those patients who decline surgery can also be treated by fillers. The treatment consists of injecting the filler, preferably hyaluronic acid, directly into the chin’s soft tissues. The treatment takes about 10 minutes with a result that is immediately visible. No anesthesia is needed. The result lasts up to 1 year.

Chin correction with lipofilling

An other possibility is the injection of the patients own fat tissue into the soft tissue of the chin for improvement of the projection. The procure is possible under local anesthesia. Through small stab incisions a certain amount of fat is aspirated, mostly around the belly button, although also possible at other locations. The aspirated fat is washed and injected directly into the chin. After operation, the chin is swollen. This takes about 1 week to resolve. As with all lipofilling, a second intervention could be necessary if too much of the injected fat is reabsorbed. Once the desired result is obtained, this is permanent.
